The
following are
important events in the Kindred world. Most Camarilla will be aware of
these incidents without being directly involved.
The Madman Breaks Free - Winter 2007
During a
city-wide power failure, the Malkavian Primogen, Brian McCullough,
broke free of his quarters and carved a swath of desctruction through
the Alhambra. Several ghouls were killed and a Kindred was severely
wounded before Assamite Schismatic Hasan Al-Rashid managed to
incapacitate and kill McCullough. It took several
months before the damage was fully repaired. Given the circumstances of
the slaying, no disciplinary action was taken against Al-Rashid; the
pentalty for McCullough's crimes would have been final death.
During the assault, McCullough revealed Al-Rashid's
involvement in Jonas Creed's murder, and was overheard by spectators.
It is uncertain how McCullough knew these facts, but no attempt was
made to deny the allegations.
The Jonas Creed Incident
- Winter 2007
Early in the
new year, Jonas Creed, a Tremere of some power and respect, disappeared
without warning. When thaumaturgy-gone-wrong was ruled out, and every
attempt to locate or contact him had failed, the Tremere Regent
petitioned the Prince for martial law.
Prince Holloway denied the request, but
gave the
Tremere permission to enter the havens of Camarilla and to peacefully
interrogate all Kindred and Ghouls. Many Tremere overstepped their
bounds, invading the homes of the Autarchs, but considering the
suspected death of such a powerful Kindred, many allowed their concern
for their own safety to override their desires for privacy.
It was eventually determined that Creed was
killed by Hasan Al-Rashid. The circumstances and motives behind the
attack still remain unknown, but Al-Rashid claims the slaying was in
self-defense. Due to his close ties with the Prince, the investigation
and arbitration of this case is being conducted by Toreador Primogen
Vincent Beltran.
Hunters and Werewolves
- Winter 2007
It was only
due to the confusion of the Jonas Creed incident that a group of
hunters were able to slip into the Blue Tree area undetected. However,
when stories of wolf poachers in Blue Tree began surfacing in the
newspapers, the Kindred in the city began to take notice. It was
cause for alarm, because the last thing the Kindred of Verdant
Falls needed was a group of enraged werewolves.
The culprits were later identified as
mortal
hunters, and were ultimately killed by Hasan's ghoul, Rick Thomson.
According to his claims, he had been tracking them since they entered
the city, and finally killed them singlehandedly when the opportunity
presented itself. The Camarilla did not question the matter further;
they were merely grateful for a small amount of goodwill between
themselves and the Garou.
The 'official' story gave Park Ranger Jim Gordon
full credit for tracking down, and ultimately engaging in a violent
shootout with the group of poachers. RCMP Officers, led by Det.
Inspector Rick Thomson, conducted a formal investigation into the
incident, and Gordon was cleared of all wrongdoing. Many local media
sources commended Gordon for his bravery, but strangely the story
failed to make national headlines.
A Bad Game of Nines -
Autumn 2006
Fledgling Toreador Jake Hewlett was invited to a game of Nines with the
Pack, following a fundraising art exhibit in his honour. During the
game, an unidentified Sabbat wandered into the field and was mistaken
for a player. In the aftermath, the Sabbat was dead.
Cardinal Chianna Grimaldi demanded
vengeance without arbitration. Pack leader Luc Beaumont took full
responsiblity for the death of the Sabbat, and willingly accepted the
punishment of death. Camarilla representatives arrived in time to stop
the execution, and demanded a formal investigation into the incident.
The Camarilla ruled that there was equal
fault on both sides: the Sabbat was tresspassing, and Luc should not
have allowed the Sabbat to be mistakenly shot. Luc was sentenced to be
flayed by the Camarilla Sherriff. Cardinal Grimaldi observed the
punishment and deemed it satisfactory.
The British Malkavian - Summer 2006
It was
discovered that the Nosferatu were responsible for smuggling in a
Malkavian from the United Kingdom; one that was apparently the subject
of a Blood Hunt. The Camarilla Elders were furious, but none so much as
the Tremere Regent. Apparently, the neonate was the talented childe of
a hacker of great fame in Kindred circles, and she had assisted her
sire in acquiring secrets from the Tremere.
The Nosferatu refused to surrender the girl until
her case was appealed to the Prince. After a trial and examination of
the offense, the Prince repealed the order for her death. This was due
largely to the fact that the London Tremere had not sought permission
from the Camarilla before executing her sire.
Though her life is no longer in immedeate danger,
the Malkavian is not loved by the Tremere, and is currently regarded by
many Camarilla Elders to be 'bad news.'
